Watertown is located in southeastern Wisconsin, approximately midway between Madison and Milwaukee. A city for all seasons, Watertown offers an abundance of outdoor recreation. Kayakers will enjoy paddling the Rock River Trail which extends the 11 counties of the Rock River. Watertown's ample park system is sure to impress visitors with 22 parks covering over 263 acres. Wooded walking trails, 18 hole Frisbee golf course, skate park, fishing areas, lighted tennis courts, basketball courts, volleyball courts, ice skating, cross country skiing, and playgrounds are among the many amenities offered. Riverside Park, one of the largest in Watertown, contains the ever popular Chamberland, a community-built children's playground, scenic picnic sites along the Rock River and the Watertown Aquatic Center. Watertown plays host to many competitions, celebrations and festivals, including Riverfest, a free 4-day outdoor music festival held in August. You may also enjoy Watertown's long-standing Tuesday farmers' market held May - November.

Watertown has one of the largest historical districts in the state, and offers several tours to be taken including the historic Octagon House and America's First Kindergarten. Visitors can also stop by the Chamber of Commerce to pick up any of the eight historic walking and driving tours of the city.

If golf is on the agenda, Windwood of Watertown is a public golf course, which includes outstanding amenities and appeals to a variety of skill levels. If indoor activities are called for, Watertown has 2 bowling alleys, a movie theater, a roller skating rink, and an array of shopping options ranging from international imports to antiques.

The city is home to Watertown Municipal Airport and offers a city-wide taxi service. If an overnight stay is in order, guests can choose from several hotels for the perfect way to end the day.

Education
Watertown is in the Watertown Unified School District. The city has one public high school, Watertown High School. Riverside Middle School is on the eastern edge of the city. The public elementary schools in the city are: Lincoln, Schurz, Douglas, and Webster. The city also has one charter high school, Endeavor Charter School.

Six parochial schools serve elementary and middle school students in Watertown, four Lutheran and two Catholic. Luther Preparatory School, a school affiliated with the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS), is located in the central city.

Maranatha Baptist University and its associated private high school, Maranatha Baptist Academy, are located on the west side of Watertown. A branch of the Madison Area Technical College is also on the west side.

Transportation
Primary automobile transportation is provided via 
Highways 1926 and 16. Highway 19 begins in Watertown and runs westward. Highway 16 runs east-west across Wisconsin from Milwaukee to La Crosse, passing around Watertown via a bypass. Business highway 26 runs north-south through the center of the city, while highway 26 bypasses the town to the west. Highways 26 and 16 provide access to Interstate 94. Highway 16 provides access to the Milwaukee metro area, and highway 19 provides access to the Madison metro area.  Watertown Municipal Airport (KRYV) provides service for the city and surrounding communities.  Amtrak's Empire Builder passenger train passes through, but does not stop in, Watertown. The nearest Amtrak train station is in Columbus, Wisconsin. The Twin Cities Hiawatha, operated by the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad (Milwaukee Road), had a stop in Watertown from its formation in 1935 to its discontinuation in 1971. Freight rail service is provided by Canadian Pacific Railway (CP), Union Pacific Railroad (UP), & Wisconsin and Southern Railroad (WSOR).
